If you are like other homeowners, you install marble countertops for their classic good looks. Installing good quality countertops doesn’t come cheap, so you should take good care of them. Luckily, it’s easy to do it. Some of the things you should do to keep them in top shape include:

Seal the countertops

Sealing not only applies to granite countertops. These countertops also need some sealing as they are porous. When you seal the countertops, you repel staining agents, which keeps the pieces looking great.

To ensure that you seal with the right products, talk to your fabricator. You can do the sealing by yourself or hire a professional to help you out.

You should note that even after sealing the pieces, you will still have to reseal them after some time. As a rule of thumb, reseal the pieces when the water no longer beads.

Clean the pieces

Cleaning the countertops not only keeps them looking great, but it also prevents stains from forming. When cleaning the pieces, avoid using acidic or abrasive cleaners.

The right way of cleaning the countertops is dusting them once a week with a soft microfiber cloth. For wet cleaning, use a damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner designed for the stone.

One of the most common ways people go about it is using mild dish soap and water. Put the water in a spray bottle and spray the counter, then using a damp cloth, wipe and scrub gently.

You should then rinse the towel and wipe until all of the suds are gone. Once you are done, dry the countertops using a towel.

Watch out for regular cleaning products that can etch the surfaces of the stone. Of significant importance, avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, vinegar, orange, citrus foods, lemon, and juice.

To avoid using products that can harm the countertops, check with your countertop company.

Never use abrasive cleaners that will damage and dull the finish. During the holidays or if you have many people staying with you, discuss it with them and let them know the products they can and can’t use on the surfaces.

Fix the issues as soon as you notice them

When you see any problem, regardless of how minor, fix it. For mild etching, get polishing powder approved by the countertop company. If there are stains on the countertops, deal with them according to their cause.

For most marble stains, you can quickly get rid of them using baking soda poultice. To make it, mix baking soda with a little water, spread it on the stain and cover it.

Wait for 12-24 hours, then gently remove the paste and wipe the area with a damp piece of cloth.

Protect the surfaces

Marble can be damaged by a wide range of substances, the most common ones being: vinegar, tomato, and citrus. When your countertops are damaged, you have no way out other than to replace them, which is expensive.

The key to keeping the pieces in top shape is treating them like fine wood finish. This calls for you to use coasters and cutting boards when preparing your food. You also should wipe the spills as soon as they happen.

Although marble is tolerant of pans and hot pots, always protect it with a trivet. You also should place placemats under glasses and plates. Immediately after the meals, clean the countertops before you do anything else.

Install good quality countertops

As we are talking about maintaining the countertops, there is no way you are going to have an easy time if you install poor quality countertops.

In the bid of cutting costs, some homeowners buy cheap, poor quality countertops. You should note that the low-quality materials are challenging to maintain as they keep on developing problems such as etching and scratching.

To have it easy, buy high-quality materials from a reputable company.

When it comes to installation, you also shouldn’t cut corners Hire the most experienced and certified granite installers Reston or any other professionals.

Although premium quality contractors will be expensive, they will be worth it as they will install top quality countertops that will last decades.
